WHERE TO GO IN MEXICO CITY?

Mexico City has multiple places that you have to visit. Here are some recommendations for you to enjoy your visit to the capital of the country.

If you ask the inhabitants of Mexico City which symbol best represents the city, nine out of ten will name the Angel. It is officially known as the Monument to Independence and has guarded its own gazebo on Paseo de la Reforma since the centennial celebrations of Mexican Independence in 1910.

Among the diez Glorietas de Reforma, it is one that few visitors will miss, but about which not much is known.

The monument was designed and built by the architect Antonio Rivas Mercado.

His house is now a museum,

but he is perhaps best known for his Palacio Municipal en Tlalpan.

Near the Ángel de la Independencia roundabout there are restaurants and shopping centers that you can visit and get to know this emblematic place

It is one of the best museums in the city, it is a place with as much history as the museum where it is located. Having been an imperial and presidential residence, it is one of the places with the best views of the city.

The castle houses the national history museum. Located at the top of Cerro del Chapulín, it is one of the most important points of the city since the thirteenth century.

The history of the museum begins in 1825 when the first president of independent Mexico, Guadalupe Victoria, ordered the creation of a National Mexican Museum.

It is the largest artistic venue in the country and has been for decades. It is the headquarters of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL). It hosts the National Theater Company, the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Opera Company, the Folkloric Ballet of Mexico and the Orchestra of the Chamber of Fine Arts. It has a capacity of 1,700 people.

At the entrance to the theater you can see mascarons of Tlaloc and Chaac, the deities of rain and water for the Mexicas and Mayas. These were designed by Gianette Fiorenzo. The arch on the stage portrays the muses with Apollo, this was built in Hungary in the workshop of Géza Maróti. The most impressive is the glass curtain made up of around a million pieces made by Tiffany’s in New York. It is unique in the world and weighs 24 tons. It contains Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl in the center. surrounded by landscapes of Yautepec and Oaxaca.

You can consult the complete schedule of events in the portal web de Bellas Artes.

The Zócalo of Mexico City is the center of the City and of Mexico as well.

The sites listed below are the first you’ll find in and around this great national square, the sites that immediately surround the square.

To go even further, you can also go:

The Zócalo area is probably the most loaded place to see and experience in all of Mexico City. The links above and below will help you find your way.

It is much more than the  10 Glorietas that make it up, although these are also quite interesting. It is the main thoroughfare of the entire metropolis and crosses skyscrapers, a dozen neighborhoods and a large part of the history of the Mexican Republic.

Some Reform sections are too broad to include here.

  • There is a whole section of Chapultepec Park.

  • The Zona Rosa, which has inspired many generations, and which, coincidentally, is also the stretch of Reforma that runs through the most important commercial district in Mexico City. Of course, there are hundreds of other places to visit next right to Paseo de la Reforma.

  • Art Museumm – Some of the largest in the world.
  • History Museums From ancient history to the 20th century.
  • House-Museum – Houses that are also museums like Frida Kahlo’s
  • INAHThe National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico endorses some of the most important sites in the city.
  • INBALMilitary MuseumsWhat is important behind the sites endorsed by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature.
  • Museums NightThe most important museums remain open one night of the month for the nocturnal spirits.
  • Other MuseosFrom the most extravagant to the most unknown
  • Science and Technology MuseumsIncreasingly important beyond the area of your interest.
  • UNAM MuseumsThe museums of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Here you can review the complete guide to museums in Mexico City https://www.museosdemexico.com/museos-ciudad-de-mexico/

Long the most visited by international guests, are some of the neighborhoods that have historically welcomed visitors from around the world and continue to do so. The Roma-Condesa area is generally divided north-south by Avenida Insurgentes, with only a portion of Roma Norte west of Insurgentes. Most of Rome is to the east.

Along the way, Avenida Álvaro Obregón is one of the most important thoroughfares.

But there’s still a world of things to see and do even while enjoying these neighborhoods. Both Roma and Condesa have some of the best art galleries in the city. That’s on top of tree-lined streets, endless restaurants, and plenty of parks and plazas. Any Condesa and Roma Visitors Guide should give you at least that much to go on.

San Angel is a quiet and picturesque neighborhood located to the south of the city.

It is a native town of the Álvaro Obregón delegation, in Mexico City, closely associated for historical, urban planning and functional reasons with the neighborhoods of Tizapán, Chimalistac, Altavista, and Tlacopac.

Its current name comes from the San Ángel Mártir school, which was founded by the Carmelite order, being its main historical monument, which is a museum of colonial art.

Xochimilco has long been a major draw for visitors from other countries who come to Mexico City. It’s hard to say no to canal walks through acres and acres of flower gardens. But Xochimilco is also an ancient community, proud of never having been fully subjugated by the ruling Mexica (Aztec) empire.

The mayor’s office is divided into 18 “barrios” and 14 “pueblos.” What was once an extensive system of lakes and canals that connected almost the entire Valley of Mexico is today a series of chinampas, floating or semi-floating artificial islands.

You can meet any of the piers here. Do not miss the Historic Center and the 17 Original Neighborhoods. The surroundings are home to unique original villages of exceptional character. And even if you’re not in the market for plants, nurseries, greenhouses, and garden stores will give you a good idea of how alive Xochimilco is to this day.

Coyoacán is probably, together with Roma and Condesa, the best-known neighborhood in Mexico City. Located in the southern part of CDMX, the Magical District of Coyoacán is an essential place for our visit to the Mexican capital.

Artists, graffiti writers, tarot readers, organ grinders, mimes, or esquite vendors mix together, forming a vital ecosystem that the Spanish director Luis Buñuel showed in a scene from his film ‘The Illusion Travels by Tram’. Add to that some of the best colonial-style buildings, cobblestone streets, museums, and lively plazas, and we whet our appetite for Coyoacán.
